Calbourne Watermill Eco Lodges
Badgers Oak, Red Squirrel & Kingfisher. English Tourist Board 4 Star Rating
Property Description
“These cleverly designed, detached holiday homes have been completely constructed in an eco-friendly style, yet combine plenty of light, space and style…”
Constructed from cedar and larch with wooden floors, these adjacent eco-lodges are superbly located overlooking woodland, a stream and the countryside.
Wildlife abounds, with badgers, various birds and famous red squirrels. These attractive holiday homes offer geo-thermal underground heating and bio-bubble treatment for waste, which then gets converted to organic matter and fed back to the earth.
Fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard, they offer modern-day living yet are energy efficient to help the environment. Located within the grounds of one of the island’s most popular family attractions, Calbourne Water Mill, which is set on 35 acres of rolling landscaped gardens with roaming peacocks, hens and doves.
Step back in time and observe the traditional flour-making process using the 17th-century water and stone mills (bread available on site), view antique engines, Granma’s kitchen, Granfers tool shed, threshing machine, restored farm wagons, wartime museum and fire station.
Also enjoy on-site punting, miniature golf, clay play, swings, a licensed cafe and giftware. The chalk bottom river close by boasts many fish including trout, eels, carp and Koi Carp. This beautiful part of the island is within easy reach of many bays, coves and beaches and stunning countryside and coastal walks. In addition to the on-site attractions, there are many attractions to visit on the island all within easy reach and suitable for all age groups. Within easy reach are the superb rock formations of The Needles, rising 100ft pinnacles of chalk. Alum Bay, with its coloured sands, is also nearby, as well as golf at Freshwater, hang-gliding, surfing, fishing and riding. There are many festivals throughout the year and organised walks. Discover traditional pottery, glass making, lavender and garlic farms, donkey sanctuary, pearl factory, a zoo, a castle and many National Trust homes and gardens including Osborne House, Mottistone Manor and Ventnor Botanical Gardens. Shops and pubs 1½ miles.
